The 6061 round tube aluminium is based on aluminum as the base element, which accounts for the largest proportion of its content. The main alloying elements include 0.8% – 1.2% magnesium (Mg) and 0.4% – 0.8% silicon (Si), which form a Mg₂Si reinforced phase to enhance the alloy’s strength and hardness, and silicon also improves casting and welding properties; 0.15% – 0.4% copper (Cu), which further enhances the strength and fatigue resistance but slightly reduces the corrosion resistance; and 0.04% – 0.35% chromium (Cr) to improve stress corrosion cracking resistance. 0.04% – 0.35% of chromium (Cr) helps to improve the resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Impurity elements, iron (Fe) content of not more than 0.7%, too much will reduce the plasticity and toughness; manganese (Mn) not more than 0.15%, zinc (Zn) not more than 0.25%, titanium (Ti) not more than 0.15%, although manganese can be refined grain, titanium can improve the casting properties, but need to be strictly controlled in order to ensure that the alloy performance stability.

Its strength is at a medium level, with tensile strength usually between 180 – 310MPa and yield strength between 110 – 270MPa, which enables it to withstand a certain amount of external force without deformation or rupture, and it can be used in the manufacture of a wide range of structural components. In terms of hardness, its Brinell hardness is about 90 – 110HB, with a certain degree of wear resistance and deformation resistance. 6061 square telescopic tubes also has good toughness and ductility, elongation up to 8% – 16%, which means that it is able to withstand a certain degree of plastic deformation during processing without rupture, facilitating extrusion, forging, bending and other molding operations. In addition, it has good fatigue resistance and can maintain stable performance under repeated alternating loads, so it can be used for parts subjected to dynamic loads over a long period of time.
